While one is
keen to help out those that are stranded in the middle of nowhere, simply
because the area in which they reside have been struck by a natural disaster,
one would need to ensure that one send the right items. I have jot down a list
of internationally approved things that can be added to your aid package, they
are:
- Plastic bottle for drinking water
- Toilet paper
- Bandages
- Torch
- Tooth brush
- Tooth pastes
- Feminine hygiene products
- Soap and other toiletries, etc.
The actual
list can be very long, but these are some of the very basic and easily
available items that can be arranged by you. Many people are not aware of the
reason why non-food items are preferred by those who carry them
and deliver them to the victims of a calamity.
The reason is
that all the relevant and other food stuff that is perfectly alright is
arranged by the international aid organizations and NGOs. They are comfortable
with it because they have researched and worked on all the possibilities and
therefore are aware about the best stuff to offer to the sufferers in an
emergency event.
People prefer
other items, especially medications and used toys or things like used pillows
and blankets over non-food items and this is where the idea of helping
others may go entirely wrong.
People who
are forced to live refugee life are exposed to all sorts of health issues,
sending them with used items or medications that are not prescribed may result
in opening the doors for serious incidents. One must never give away such
things or send such stuff while helping those that are stuck in disastrous
situations.
It would
always be great to refer to the suggested list of items that are specifically
designed for such situations and have been of great help throughout the years.
They have been tested and proven by many international aid organizations.
Sending items
like used blankets, pillows and toys may also spread allergies of different
types. Therefore, it would be best to keep things simple and avoid efforts that
may harm others, consulting with the aid agencies would be one’s best bet.
